The Library and Winfield Park District are co-hosting a “Declaration 1776” exhibit provided by the League of Women Voters of Wheaton. The League includes Carol Stream, Warrenville, West Chicago, Wheaton and Winfield and is a nonpartisan political organization working to ensure everyone is represented in our democracy through advocacy and education. This eight-panel exhibit starts with the original idea of modern democracy that “all men are created equal” and then builds on that theme to explore the origins of the Civil Rights Movement, Women’s Rights, democratic movements across the globe and the legacies that continue to be central to the identity of our country. The exhibit was created by The Gilder Lehrman Institute of American History with the eighth panel added by the League introducing it and noting their sponsorship. The shared exhibit will be on display at the Library upstairs in the Adult Services area and the Charles R. Beggs Activity Center between May 8 – 27.
